This front garden designed by Dowen Farmer Architects aimed to create a sense of arrival to this large terrace property. The design incorporated screening to bins from the road whilst also providing a green outlook from a bedroom in a lower light-well.
By replacing the existing concrete surface and steps, with contemporary grey sandstone the space was modernised and created a crisp, neat entrance to the property. Furthermore the walls to the side of the steps were reconstructed to compliment the clean lines.
Bespoke western red cedar slatted trellis was used to screen the bins from the road and adjacent property.
A low brickwall was built to create a level change between the bins and lower planting bed which is overlooked by a bedroom. We planted an instant Taxus baccata hedge to create a green backdrop and height to screen the bins from the bedroom. A simple planting scheme combined evergreen structure with mixed herbaceous forms to create seasonal interest.
