This project in Streatham was for a restricted site which served as both a front and back garden in one space for the client.
The brief was to provide usable outdoor rooms to create an extension to the house, considering opportunities for play and entertainment through functional spaces, whilst also providing an area to park an electric car for charging.
We addressed the idea of wayfinding to define the spaces through surface materials, textures, colour and unit sizes.
A long water rill dissects the site to create a calming sound within the space, which sat adjacent to a busy main road.
Planting was used to provide prospect and refuge in the space to highlight key views and screen others. The planting palate also considers biodiversity, to encourage wildlife in to the space.
A new external lighting system was implemented so the garden can be enjoyed at all times of the day, whilst creating an extension of the existing living space.
