This project in Islington brought an aged sunken garden, built on different levels back to life with a clean contemporary palette of materials and plants.
Existing granite paving and steps were replaced with contemporary porcelain, which added a crispness and modern setting to the space. Alterations to existing site levels made the garden more practical and useable, whilst the artificial lawn replaced the patchy turf to add texture and functionality without the need for constant maintenance.
The new planting scheme combined evergreen structure with mixed herbaceous forms. Herb planting was provided at the lower level of the garden close to the kitchen to be used whilst cooking.
A new external lighting system was implemented so the garden can be enjoyed at all times of the day, whilst creating an extension of the existing living space.
